Vaughan chopper pump handles turkey feathers and provides increased efficiency at processing plant

A large poultry processing company in New Zealand was looking for a way to transfer turkey feathers to their rendering plant. Their existing system was mechanically troublesome, messy, and caused continual odour problems. Approximately 1.5 tonnes per hour of turkey feathers are processed daily and the feathers can reach up to 350 mm long with quill diameters up to 8 mm.

To solve this problem, Pump Systems Ltd designed a new sump and flume system where the high concentration of turkey feathers and water would be channeled directly into the suction of a Vaughan chopper pump. From here, the product is chopped and pumped to a feather screen located near the rendering plant and the screened water returned so that it can be recycled. The new system has proven to be clean, easy to maintain, and much more efficient than the previous system.

Large winery installs Vaughan self priming chopper pump to solve clogging problems

Pump Systems Ltd have recently supplied a Vaughan self-priming chopper pump to a large New Zealand wine company for pumping wastewater containing solids such as leaves, bottle tops, string, plastic caps and strapping. This material caused continual clogging problems for the existing pumps, requiring suction screens that would also clog and get 'blanketed' with leaves and other debris. Installation of the Vaughan chopper pump eliminated all of these problems.

The Vaughan name is widely becoming accepted as the ultimate solution for solving difficult solids handling pumping problems in both municipal and industrial processing environments. The newly introduced self-priming range utilises the same proven and patented design of other Vaughan chopper pumps with a hardened impeller, cutter bar and upper cutter, allowing the pump to chop and pump solids laden waste material without the risk of clogging.
